बलाढ्य कांगारूंना पाणी पाजत अखेर अनेक वर्षांनी इंग्लंडने विश्वचषकावर आपले नाव कोरले. टी-20 फायनलमध्ये इंग्लंडच्या रेयान साइडबॉटम याच्या भेदक गोलंदाजीने तर क्रेग किसवेटरच्या धडाकेबाज फटकेबाजीच्या जोरावर इंग्लंडने टी-20 चॅम्पियन बनण्याचे आपले स्वप्न पूर्ण केले.

फायनल सामन्यात कट्टर प्रतिस्पर्धी मानल्या जाणाऱ्या इंग्लंड आणि ऑस्ट्रेलियाचे बलाढ्य संघ आमने-सामने असल्याने या सामन्याविषयीची उत्सुकता ताणली गेली होती. ऑस्ट्रेलियाचे पारडे अधिक जड मानले जात असतानाच इंग्लंडने साऱ्यांनाच आश्चर्याचा धक्का दिला.

पहिल्या षटकापासूनच इंग्लंड संघाने आक्रमक खेळ सुरू केला होता. साइडबॉटमने 26 धावा देत दोन गडी बाद केले. त्याच्या गोलंदाजीपुढे कांगारूंचे फलंदाज निष्प्रभ ठरले.

पहिला गडी गमावल्यानंतर इंग्लंड संघावर दबाव निर्माण झाला होता. परंतु किसवेटर (49 चेंडूत 63 धावा) व
केवीन पीटरसन (31 चेंडूत 47 धावा) या दोघांच्या जीवावर इंग्लंड संघाने दुस-या विकेटसाठी 111 धावा जोडल्या.

ऑस्ट्रेलियाने दिलेले 147 धावांचे आव्हान इंग्लंड संघाने केवळ 17 षटकात तीन गडी राखत पूर्ण केले आणि सात गडी राखत कांगारूंना पराभूत केले.

Craig Krieswetter struck a sparkling 63 as England were crowned Twenty20 world champions after crushing Australia by seven wickets in the summit clash to win their maiden ICC tournament title here today.

Krieswetter made the much vaunted Australian bowling attack look like pedestrian with an explosive 49-ball innings which was studded with seven fours and two sixes as England chased down the target of 148
with three overs to spare in the grand finale at the Kensington Oval here.

He was given able support by Kevin Pietersen who made a valuable 31-ball 47 which had four boundaries and a six in it. The awesome pair brought the hitherto mighty Australians to their knees by stitching 111 runs from just 68 balls for the second wicket to set up the win for England.
